Goals for semester two!

My goals for this semester are very similar from last year. Last year I did not feel as if I showed of what I was actually capable of and this time round I really want to progress far and achieve new skills.

Last semester I talked about how I wanted to learn and progress playing chords on the keyboard. Unfortunately this didn't really go to plan because I was really lazy and didn't feel as confident as what I do this time round. When I actually sit down in front of a piano and have the chords I can pick them up quite easily with a little bit of practise and a few hours I feel as if I can learn a song with ease.

I do struggle with two hand chords but I am slowly starting to pick up using both hands it's just remembering where the chords are , I guess it's all about muscle memory and it comes naturally with practise.

I also wanted to improve on my song writing skills which is still a very weak point for myself as I really struggle on how to structure a song correctly to get the right tempo/sound/meaning. I did try for my individual assessment to write my own origional song and it was like I had writers block! I just couldn't grasp how to put together a song! So mabey song writing isn't for me....

Genres

During the 60's & 70's there was a lot of different genres around such as;
  • Disco - ABBA
  • Punk Rock -  The sex pistols
  • Mowtown - Jackson 5
  • Progressive Rock - Pink Floyd
  • Glam Rock - David Bowie
  • Minimalism - Phillip Glass
  • Heavy Metal - ACDC
  • Krautrock - Kraftwerk
  • Funk - Jimi Hendricks
  • Soul Music - Bobby Womack

From the list above you can see that there is a lot of famous artists up there who performed in 60 & 70's. these artists are still recognised today such as Queen. Recently two members of the band Brian May & Rodger Taylor formed with Adam Lambert who is an amazing singer just like Freddie Mercury.

They have done performances on and off since 2009 and in 2014 they announced a massive sell out summer tour which was held in June & July 2014. They had 19 different dates lined up in places such as Las Vegas and also New York City.

A musical was also based on the songs from Queen which was called 'We Will Rock You'. Another musical was Mamma Mia which also had songs from the famous band ABBA.

A lot of bands are all very popular now as you do get a lot of tribute bands for all sort of occasions.

Here we go again ........ semester two

So its semester two already!

My first semester at university has flown by!

Looking back at last semester for music I really did not think that music would be for me because I didn't have a clue what was going on half the time. After not getting as good of feedback that I wanted I decided that I needed to pull my finger out and really push myself this semester as I wanted to do really well and prove that I can do something when I put my mind to it.

I came back into musicianship a few weeks in because I wasn't sure on my module choices at the start of the year. Even though that I had came back and missed two weeks I did not feel as if I missed much because it was all still very early stage of researching what the module was about.

This semester the topic is 60's & 70's!
